McLean Engineering Company is seeking a motivated rising junior or rising senior with an interest in the power engineering field to fill a summer engineering intern position.� With the growth in population in the Southeast US, the advent of the Smart Grid, and the increased focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy, power engineering stands out as a growing, exciting field in an otherwise difficult economic climate.� Come spend a summer with a small, growing firm that offers the opportunity for substantive experience in this field.

Job responsibilities will include the following:

Design assistance on substation, transmission line, and power systems planning projects;
Client visits, potentially including travel throughout the Southeast US;
Grant research and application, and developing funding and implementation strategies for energy efficiency and potential renewable projects, including working in partnerships with Fortune 500 companies.
Various support and administrative office duties.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Electrical Engineering Major or demonstrated interest in power engineering;
Experience using CAD and Microsoft Office;
An interest in living in South Georgia.

McLean Engineering Welcomes New Engineer

McLean Engineering Company is proud to welcome the newest member of our team. Jeffrey Durrence joins McLean Engineering Company as an Engineer after 2 years as a Network Administrator at the City of Moultrie, GA. Jeffrey will oversee technology strategy and implementation and be involved in power engineering projects, focusing on projects where technology and power engineering intersect. Jeffrey provides McLean Engineering with technology capabilities to complement our technical capabilities. This additional capability will enhance McLean Engineering’s ability to provide our clients with the excellent service they have come to expect, particularly as we look to energy efficiency and smart grid support.

Jeffrey is originally from Sylvania, Georgia. He obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia (UGA). Upon graduation and completion of the FE (EIT) Exam, Jeffrey worked as a Research Engineer at the UGA Tifton Campus. His research work was a continuation of his graduate project involving yield monitoring instrumentation in peanut and cotton harvesting equipment. In 1999, Jeffrey co-founded an information technology (IT) service business in Moultrie and operated this business until accepting a Network Administrator position with the City of Moultrie in 2007. At McLean Engineering, Jeffrey brings together his IT experience with his past engineering work to become a very valuable leader.

Jeffrey and his wife Laura have two children who routinely lead them around the Moultrie circuit of church, school and extracurricular activities.

Judge McLean Featured in Electric Co-op Today

E.J. “Judge” McLean, one of the patriarchs of McLean Engineering Company, is featured this week as a “Power Pioneer” on ECT.coop, the website of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. The article shares Judge’s perspective on the early days of rural electrification and the evolution of the electric power industry, as well as Judge’s impressive personal story.

From his work bringing power to rural America to his service as a decorated P-47 pilot in World War II, Judge truly exemplifies the “Greatest Generation”. We are proud of his accomplishments and appreciate that McLean Engineering Company today stands on the shoulders of such great men.
